Women have historically been viewed as more intuitive than men, but the manner in which intuition is used, based on feelings, has traditionally been frowned upon.
Intuition has gone through an evolution over the centuries, from respect in ancient times (the highly respected and feared High priestesses) now relegated to flighty (think old testament and Victorian attitudes). Intuition is making a comeback though, returning to claim its place in the spotlight of modern world neurobiology Intuition is now recognized as a particular, and advanced aspect of intelligence.
Science and more rational approaches and measures have traditionally engendered an almost blatant disregard for intuition and instinct. This respect and acceptance of women’s natural intuition have a forgotten historical place, and now increasingly, has become a real factor in making decisions.
What is intuition?
How many times haven’t you been swayed to a certain action that “feels” right? Even though the rational and carefully considered conclusion didn’t convince you because it didn’t have quite the right “feel” to it.
The world has for centuries, been a proverbial “man’s world”. More recently, we are rediscovering, or discovering for the first time in some areas, that Intuition is a sophisticated and quick intelligence. Skills like being more able to read faces and empathy for how people are feeling or experiencing a situation, while historically undervalued, are gaining respect and kudos in the modern world and workplace. We’re realizing that women are quite a bit better at some things and that having a balance of women, whether in society or on management boards, leads to a better world for everyone in that situation.
Gender differences in the brain
Both science and popular opinion will attest to differences in the way the different genders think and behave.
There are structural and neurobiological differences in the male and female brains. The differences begin with the hormones affecting the brain development of the male and female fetus. The differences are seemingly slight until puberty and then accelerate in differentiated development during this critical period of development.
Articulating feelings
Women tend to have more developed left zones specific to speech and verbal processing. The feeling-oriented feminine brain has acquired the stereotype of being more verbal and superior at articulating a complex feeling nature. To some extent, the structure of their brains gives them advantages in this area.
If you consider that the corpus callosum in female brains is typically more densely connected, you see why the ability to produce more data from their left hemisphere feeling and word processing centers and connect it to the right-brained processes, will present as better articulation and descriptions of psychological processes.
Men, on the other hand, are more adept at the right-brained things like logic (without emotion), slower but step-by-step processing, and taking action to produce an outcome or result. While it’s not quite that clear-cut, there are more similarities between our different brains than differences. We merely have different specializations, though this does not take individual brains into account.
Einstein’s autopsied brain is reported to have a greater density of neural connections between hemispheres via his superiorly wired corpus callosum. Something that is characteristic of female brains.
Women’s more wired corpus callosum also promotes the physical and neural that enables a “sixth sense”. A sense that’s not physically located in any area of the brain, but seems to use data from all of them.
There is so much lore and opinion on women’s sixth sense, that it’s almost become a factor in decision-making. You know how your intuition tells you to trust your mother’s intuition.
Synctuition programs can enhance several aspects of intuition. Through 3D sound and audio manipulation, Synctuition’s binaural tracks can enhance your more primal brain functions, entraining quicker access to your intuition.
Evolution and adaptation
From an evolutionary standpoint the argument can be made that intuition is:
- Still around because it serves us and is useful for our survival, otherwise it would have gone the way of the appendix
- More highly developed in women because in a patriarchal and male-dominated society, reading subtle cues and “empathy” has enabled females to have some power over the last few hundred years
- Has enabled us to make decisions that would lead to self-preservation or stronger representation on a neurobiological and social level.
Enhancing an already developed muscle
Well, if you have a good intuition already, why bother to improve it?
- Increasing your intuition will make you more comfortable with following it.
- The daily emphasis on and entrainment of rational and logical thought can start making you doubt your gut feeling.
- Self-doubt creeps in and becomes a daily practice and self-fulfilling prophecy.
- You exercise your other muscles, so you should keep this one fit as well.
Women have stressful lives as working mothers, wives, chauffeurs, and all the balls that modern mothers juggle. In that chaos, it’s easy to lose touch with your inner world and deeper aspects of yourself. Commit to some me-time daily by following a meditation practice or brain enhancement program like Synctuiton.
Of course, if you’re a man, you need to develop your intuition quickly so as not to fall behind. Watch this great video, then register for a free trial.
